Around this time millions of women embraced this hairstyle as it was low maintenance and didn't provide much skill after being cut to make it look perfect everyday. The term given to this was "wash and wear" because it saved a lot of time for the modern working woman.

Sassoon's first salon opened in London in 1954. As a new turned businessman he then grew his empire in the US, thus becoming a household name as he launched a wide range of products. He also received a CBE at Buckingham Palace in 1999.
